Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., one of many lost talents in boxing today, has recently been vocal about his distaste for Canelo Alvarez, often calling him a coward and saying in interviews that he’s been an insult to the Middleweight division.
Chavez, son of ring legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., has proven to be on good terms with Golovkin in social media posts, praising him and posing together for amicable photos.
It seems now that the friendship could blossom into Golovkin’s first name-brand opponent, albeit a few years too late to pose a 50-50 matchup.
Chavez took to Twitter yesterday to say he’d be willing to make a fight with Golovkin this coming September at 168 pounds, further stating that he would give the Kazakh the entirety of his purse if he is unable to make weight, something that has been an issue for Chavez in the past.
Chavez ended his offer by taking a shot at Canelo by telling Golovkin, “Do not wait for cowards, amigo,” adding the hashtag “#mexicanday.”

amigoThe current plan for Golovkin and K2 Promotions is to try landing a Billy Joe Saunders fight in the U.K. this summer. Saunders was open on Twitter to a unification bout and appears to have been humbled by the backlash that came after him for choosing to make a defense over unranked Max Bursak instead of proving himself against Golovkin.
Should Golovkin beat Saunders, a Chavez Jr. PPV on Mexico’s Independence Day would be a sure box office smash, especially given Golovkin’s sellout performance at The Forum and 1.3 million viewers tuning into his fight against relative nobody Dominic Wade.
Promoter Tom Loeffler has previously expressed interest in a Chavez fight. Golovkin has yet to make an official statement regarding the potential bout.
